For Sale

Workers know that Mother’s Market and Kitchen is for sale. They have seen prospective buyers touring their stores.

They are both worried and excited about possible new ownership. On the one hand, they have seen the problems with the absentee ownership of Mill Road Capital. They fear that a new owner will not understand how to fix Mother’s Market. They worry that another remote owner will repeat the mistakes of the current owners, especially when it comes to workforce management.

On the other hand, they hope new owners come in with fresh vision, an intent to invest in a business with great potential, and a commitment to honor workers’ right to organize a union and recalibration of labor management from intimidation to collaboration.

Either way, Mother’s Market workers will keep fighting for a union so they have a voice to make their stores better – better places to work, better places to shop, and better contributors to their community.

Mother’s Market workers call their organizing effort Hearts United, because they view themselves as the heart of Mother’s Market. And they will keep working to make their vision a reality.
